Emotional Safety for Electrical Engineers?

The above topic may be very casual for some people. With my experience of working with 1000+ electrical engineers on creating safe workplace, 80% of the engineers said that everything is ok but we are always under pressure to complete the task. The pressure is the main reason for causing accident. From my point of view, the primary training required for the electrical maintenance engineers is not only the technical knowledge but how to manage their emotions during tough time. No electrical engineers want to meet accident or create accidents, no electrical engineers wish to show their competency by completing the task quickly all are by the external pressure. Electrical persons are the industrial doctors, those doctors should be given right time to treat or trouble shoot the problems.

You can say that they job is to support the production for uninterrupted production process. Yes, absolutely true. My point is not to stop the external pressure alone and also train them to manage their emotion so that they can focus they’re with more attention and complete the safely.

The following are the suggested solutions

  • Conform their readiness to do a task
  • Estimate the time for completion and add some more cushion timing
  • Motivate them to do their work in spite of your old support systems.
  • After the successful completion, appreciate them on their job
  • Support them with latest safety gadgets
  • Involve them in safety discussion

Some jobs can’t be done without pressure, electrical maintenance is one such. Educating them to handle the pressure is the ultimate solution. It is possible by training them on self-emotional management
